Q:
I see the gear drive is exposed. Is that dangerous?
A: No, it is not dangerous. While the gears are exposed, edges of the
gears are rounded and merely "buzz" harmlessly on your fingers
if you come in contact with them while the pump is running.
Q: Do I have to hold the pump while it is running?
A: No, the exposed gears do not touch the ground when the MotoPump is set down.
But, as the hands free inflator clip frees up both hands, I typically hold the
pump by the motor or hose while it is running. It is also fine to put it down
on its included heavy duty case to keep it from moving around or sucking up any
dirt while inflating your tires, air shocks, air forks, etc.
Q: Does the MotoPump get hot when it is running?
A: All air compressors become warm to some degree as they pump and build up air
pressure. The MotoPump is no exception, but hot is a relative term. After a few
minutes of running, the motor is warm, but not too warm to hold on to, and the
head of the pump portion is hot, but not so hot as to burn your skin. I have
taken my MotoPump's temp after a full inflation, zero to 40 psi of a motorcycle
tire, and it was about 135 degrees f, at the pump head. That is about like a
drinkable cup of coffee.
Q: That thing looks small. Can you tell me the MotoPump's dimensions and weight?
A: The MotoPump itself easily fits in the palm of your hand. It is about
4" long,
3" high and 1.5" thick. The inflator hose is just over 18" long
and the power cord is 8 feet long. It weighs between 16 and 20 ounces, depending
on the connector.
Q: I have tires with tubes on my motorcycle. Do you have a kit for them?
A: Yes, we have a kit that includes tube patches, glue and tire irons to allow
you to fix a flat on a bike with spoke or laced wheels. AFAIK, BMW is the only
maker of tubeless spoke wheels, for their GS line, so, if you have spokes and
are not on a GS, you most likely have tubes...
Q: How long does it take to fill a motorcycle tire?
A: The large tires on my Harley-Davidson Road Glide take about three minutes
to go from zero to 36 psi. Smaller tires take less time. Automotive tires take
a bit longer.
Q: I have a slow leak in my front tire on my VFR and need to air up about once
a week. How long does it take the MotoPump to go from 30 to 38 psi?
A: I just tried it on my VFR, and it took less than 30 seconds to go from 30
to 38 psi. :-)
Q: I ride a BMW R1150GS. Do you do a plug for that?
A: Yes, we use genuine German made Powerlet connectors. If you are unsure
of which connector you need, check out this great resource: http://www.powerletproducts.com/documentation/glossary.html
Q: How many amps does the MotoPump draw?
A: It draws just under 10 amps on startup and under load. Note that
some cigarette lighter sockets are backed by a 5 or 8 amp fuse. If your
bike has a lower amp rated fuse, you either need to upgrade the plug or
go with a direct connection to the battery.
Q: I have a Battery Tender that I use to keep my battery fully charged. Can I
plug into the Battery Tender tail that is wired into my battery?
A: Yes! Just select the SAE connector at checkout and we will install it for
you.
Q: Does a case come with each MotoPump, even if I don't get the repair kit?
A: Yes, we include a heavy duty coated Nylon case with each MotoPump.
Q:
Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes, we are happy to ship internationally via USPS Priority Mail International.
The site will calculate the postage for you, it usually runs about $14.00 for
a single MotoPump or PSI Pump to any country listed. To check, put the item in
your cart, click "Proceed to Checkout" and at the top is a link to calculate
